A city street in Glasgow closed off with traffic cones and a 'Road Closed' sign due to sewer repair works. Construction barriers and signage are visible, with a historic glass-fronted building in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

City Centre Road Closure

Gordon Street is expected to be closed for four weeks to allow for repairs to the sewer network.

We are continuing our emergency sewer repair on Gordon Street in Glasgow City Centre to help reduce the risk of internal flooding in nearby properties.

Due to the depth of the sewer and the presence of multiple underground utilities, a road closure on Gordon Street has now been put in place to ensure the safety of our teams and the public.

The road closure is in place between Renfield Street and West Nile Street.

We expect this work to take four weeks to complete, however this depends on varies factors, including ground conditions and what is fund once further excavation is underway.

A diversion route is in place via Drury Lane; however, for articulated lorries this will be a left turn only on to West Nile Street due to a tight turn.

The bus gate on Union Street has also been suspended for the duration of the works.

Local businesses remain open as usual and access for pedestrians will be maintained throughout the work.

Latest Update - 16th May

Our team on site have now found the issue that is causing problems with the sewer and are working to repair this as quickly and safely as possible.

Once our repair is complete, a CCTV survey of the sewer will be carried out. Then, if no further issues are found, we will reinstate the road.

We expect to be able to reopen the road on the evening of Friday 23 May, however this depends on the results of our CCTV survey.

Thank you to road users and local businesses for their patience and understanding while we work to complete this essential repair.
